The first Firefox OS smartphone to be sold in the United States was the ZTE Open. On Thursday, its successor, the ZTE Open C, started selling on Ebay. It costs $20 more than the ZTE Open, but gets a few spec bumps.
While Firefox OS is targeted at price-sensitive international buyers, it is nice to have the ability to try out the open platform here in the United States. And since it’s being sold directly from ZTE through Ebay, ZTE doesn’t have to worry about retail partnerships or wide distribution–anyone inclined to try this phone out can simply buy one. With no carrier partnerships planned at this time, this handset likely won’t be a huge seller in the United States.
